Principal’s Message

Praise Week

Next week is Praise Week at school where we encourage all our school community to further increase their use of praise to support and motivate each other and there will be lots of extra opportunities for our scholars to earn CAPs in time for Celebration Assemblies in a few weeks.

GSCE Examinations

GCSE examinations begin next week. Year 11 parents have received a letter about this today. On behalf of our whole school community, I wish the class of 2024 the very best of luck. They have worked so hard over the past five years despite their KS3 experience being disrupted by the pandemic, and we know they will make us and their families proud.

Staying mentally healthy during exam time

As we head towards the main exam time it's worth revising how we can support young people at what can be a very stressful time.

Young Minds have a series of support pages aimed to help with exam stress and anxiety. Their advice is available to help school staff, parents, and carers and, of course, young people themselves. You can find this helpful advice at the links below:

Head of Year Messages

Year 7 – Ms Bryan

This week Year 7 have taken real pride in their academic work and have had fantastic attitudes towards their learning. At this point in the school year, they have fully embedded and embraced our school values and continue to live through them in everything they do. The lessons I was lucky enough to observe this week have showcased high levels of participation which has positively impacted their overall progress. This is only possible due to their level of engagement and their attendance to school being so brilliant – so thank you for your continued support with that. We have had the pleasure of congratulating our project central entries this week, they are incredibly creative!! Wishing you all a relaxing bank holiday weekend.

Year 8 – Mr J Anatsui

This week was big test week, and year 8 were examined in all subjects. Big test week is no small feat and I want to praise year 8 for the fantastic approach to the week. The independent work they have done will count and I look forward to closely analysing the data with subject leaders, we are confident we will see fantastic levels of progress.

The week also saw year forums take place, year 8 had 100% attending form reps leading to a successful student voice opportunity with the senior prefects.

Lastly, we have been blessed with beautiful weather this week, but this does not mean our standards change. All scholars need to attend school in full school uniform, please continue to support us by ensuring your child leaves home with their full school uniform.

Year 9 –Mr J Roper

We are really looking forward to next Tuesday's (7th May) Y9 Parents’ Evening after -school. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to meet with teaching staff and find out about all the fantastic work that your child has achieved so far, this academic year. Both Ms Renshaw and I will also be available on the evening to answer any questions you may have regarding pastoral or attendance concerns.

Next week will see the launch of a specific Year 9 Attendance competition, we want to continue to build on the tremendous attendance that the year group are currently achieving and will be awarding prizes to the best attended Form group and trying to build more competition across the forms and pupils.

Finally, as the weather (hopefully) begins to change, and the hotter weather arrives please can you ensure that your child has access to a drink through the day. Water can be purchased at social times or alternatively they can bring a water bottle that can be filled at one of the water stations located around the school site.

Have a good long weekend and we look forward to welcoming you to school on Tuesday for parents’ evening.

Year 10 – Mr J Rooza

This week, we are continuing to emphasise the importance of independence and responsibility to our year 10 scholars, especially as they transition into year 11. Students are rising to the challenge and demonstrating their ability to take ownership of their conduct, uniform and effort in school. It’s imperative that students maintain a fantastic behaviour, punctuality and attendance record over the summer term, as future colleges will have access to all this information in the coming months.

At MEA Central, we take advantage of every opportunity given to us. This week we have some exciting opportunities for our year 10 scholars. We have an incredible opportunity for one student from MEA Central to be an official ball assistant for Manchester United in the 2023-24 season. They will be responsible for supporting first team games at Old Trafford, U23 fixtures at Leigh Sports Village and women’s fixtures when required. Students Must be able to attend evening (weekday) and weekend football matches for both the first team at Old Trafford and U23’s at Leigh Sports Village. If your child is interested in applying, the application form is available on central online. Please speak to Mr Rooza or Mr Wilson for more information.

A final reminder to ensure all students are completing revision and retrieval practise each week to ensure they are prepared for their next set of progress exams at the end of June.

Enjoy a wonderful bank holiday weekend!

Year 11 – Mr C McCullough

This week Year 11s completed their French and Spanish speaking exams, and we were very impressed indeed! We are now officially entering exam season with exams starting on Thursday 9th and Friday 10th of May.   Please ensure your child leaves for school on time and fully equipped to ensure they are in the best position to complete their exams successfully.

Just a polite reminder that uniform and punctuality are both as important now as they have ever been. Every minute counts and students should be heading straight to lesson to make the most of it.

We have asked our students to be more independent by attending overtimes without reminders.  We place overtime lists up on student exits daily to support but it may also be beneficial for you to monitor arbor to support further.

Finally, prom passports have been launched in school.  These are to be completed by staff near the end of Year 11s time.  Students will be monitored on various standards and expectations such as punctuality, equipment, and home learning, and if they score well, they will earn their place on prom.

Let us know if there is anything we can do to further support you at this time.

Best wishes,
Mr. C. McCullough
