Principal’s Message for Week A , wb 16th June 2025

House Competitions

We’d like to thank everyone who supported last half term’s House Oracy event, where students gave powerful speeches on the theme of standing up to intolerance. Congratulations to our award winners from Simul, Civitas, and Auxilium!

This half term, students are taking part in several exciting House competitions.  Upcoming events include House Gratitude Card Making, where students will design postcards with messages of thanks during form time with winning designs announced on 30th June. The winning designs will then be used throughout the whole school to show gratitude to the MEA Central staff.

Our House Countdown competition will run across two days where students get a chance to show off their English and Mathematics skills!

We’re looking forward to House Sports Day on 16th July. Students have been working hard to qualify for the events in our House Heats. Students that qualify will get the chance to visit Stockport Harriers Athletic track.

Finally, we’ll end the year with a House Extravaganza on the last day of term featuring inflatables, festival games, classic sports day events, and more. It's set to be a brilliant end to the year!

Attendance

Thank you for continuing to support your child and sending them to school every day.  As noted in last week's newsletter, we have been awarded certificates as a recognition for our scholars' excellent attendance - something we intend to keep up!  The attendance since our return has been outstanding and we would like to say thank you for making it a priority.

Remember attendance is crucial to your child's progress academically and socially, and as a result it is something colleges and post-16 options look at when deciding on applications.  As always, if you require any support with your child attending regularly, contact us and we will always do what we can to support.

Safeguarding

Support for young people and parents

The NSPCC have launched a new platform offering support and resources to both parents and young people around online safety. The resources cover a range of topics and offer educational information around the dangers online platforms can pose. There are also videos available for both parents and young people to watch.

Please share these resources with your child to ensure they are aware of how to remain safe online.

Head of Year Messages

Year 7 – Ms. C Gates

Well done to Year 7 for an excellent week of Big Tests. Our scholars have shown real focus – staying calm, working hard, and doing their best, which is exactly what we ask for. In a couple of weeks, students will take part in the national tests. No preparation is needed for these – they are simply a way to help us understand how students are progressing.

As we move through this final term, we’ll be focusing on how Year 7s can successfully transition into Year 8. This will involve getting used to a different playground and developing greater independence around school. We’ll be holding assemblies to support students with this change and explain what to expect.

Attendance has also been excellent this week at 95.7%. Please keep this up and aim for strong attendance every day until the end of the term.

Ms Gates

Year 8 – Ms. S Bryan

I hope you had a restful weekend and are ready for another productive week ahead. As we move into the final stretch of the term, I’d like to take a moment to share some important reminders, exciting updates, and celebrations from last week.

Please continue to support your child in arriving at school each day fully equipped and in full school uniform. Having the right tools and wearing our uniform with pride sets a positive tone for the day and helps ensure students are prepared to learn and represent the school community to the highest standard. Your support in this makes a big difference.

A huge congratulations to all the students who represented our school at the Year 8 athletics competition last Friday, competing against many other schools with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship. We are especially proud of the following students for their outstanding individual performances:

  • Lhavel – 2nd place in the 100m sprint
  • Astrid – 1st place in the long jump, 100m, and 200m – an incredible achievement!
  • Phoebe – 2nd place in the 300m
  • Woodrow – 3rd place in the javelin

Well done to all our athletes for your dedication and determination!

A reminder that our Year 8 Progress Tests are fast approaching. These assessments are an opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning and help inform their next steps as we prepare for Year 9. Please note the following dates:

  • Tuesday 1st July – Maths Progress Test
  • Wednesday 2nd July
    • Morning: English Progress Test (Spelling, reading, and comprehension)
    • Afternoon: Science Progress Test

Please ensure your child is well-rested and has the necessary equipment for each day. We encourage a calm and focused approach, and staff will be supporting students throughout.

Finally, it was truly wonderful to end the week with our Eid form parties. The celebrations brought joy, delicious food, and a fantastic sense of community. Thank you to everyone who contributed – it was a lovely way to come together and mark such a special occasion.

Year 9 – Mr C Blackburn

We’re excited to share that the launch of the prefect applications has been fantastic. It’s been a real pleasure speaking with so many students — the conversations have been thoughtful and reflective, and it’s clear that many are stepping into Year 10 with a great sense of maturity and responsibility.

Becoming a prefect offers a number of valuable benefits, including:

  1. Leadership Skills – Develop practical leadership experience in a supportive environment.
  2. It Looks Great on Your CV – Stand out when applying for colleges, jobs, or apprenticeships.
  3. You Make a Difference – Play a meaningful role in improving the school community.
  4. Better Communication – Build confidence speaking with peers, staff, and in public settings.
  5. Confidence Boost – Take on responsibility and grow in self-belief.
  6. Friendships and Teamwork – Work closely with others and build strong connections.

Please see the timeline below for key dates in the application process:

  • Week commencing Monday 2nd June: Launch in Year 9 Head of Year Assembly
  • Week commencing Monday 9th June: Application forms distributed in form time
  • Week commencing Monday 16th June: Shortlisting for roles.
  • Wednesday 25th June: Break duty trial

Also, a massive well done to the scholars of the week for last week.

Please note that you will receive a letter informing you of your child’s KS4 subjects on Friday 20th June.

 Thanks very much,

Mr Blackburn and Miss Naz

Year 10 – Mr J Roper

Year 10 have continued to prepare really well for their upcoming Progress Exams. All the timetables and literature for this series of exams has been sent to you in preparation for your Son/Daughter starting the exams.

In preparation for the exams both myself and Ms Renshaw are running a ‘Exam Drop in’ session for the pupils to answer any questions they may have - this will be from 3-4pm in G6 on Monday 16th June.

Thank you once again for your ongoing support

Mr Roper and Ms Renshaw

Year 11 – Mr J Rooza

Today, we held our Year 11 Leavers Assembly – a truly special occasion to mark the end of their time at MEA Central. Echoing what I said to them earlier, it’s so important that we pause to recognise the significance of this moment. I am incredibly proud of everything this remarkable year group has achieved. It has been an absolute privilege and a pleasure to be their Head of Year over the past few years. I have never worked with such a hardworking, charming and determined group of students. I will miss them all deeply, but I know they have bright futures ahead.

On behalf of the Year 11 team, I want to take this opportunity to thank all parents and carers for your unwavering support throughout their journey. Your encouragement and belief in both your children and our school community has made a real difference – we couldn’t have done it without you.

Although we officially said goodbye today, a reminder that there are still a few exams remaining next week.

  • Monday 16th June – Physics
  • Tuesday 17th June – Spanish Writing
  • Wednesday 18th June – Engineering & Further Maths

Finally, a reminder that Prom will take place on Tuesday 1st July at The Lowry, Salford. We would love to see as many students as possible attending to celebrate together. Further details have been shared via email, and tickets must be purchased by Friday 27th June.

Thank you.

Mr Rooza & Mrs Costello
