Following receiving the Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) award, we are delighted to share that our school has now been recognised as an Inclusion Quality Mark Centre of Excellence. This achievement reflects our unwavering commitment to inclusion, our rigorous systems, and our belief that every student deserves a fantastic future.
During the assessment, the Inclusion Quality Mark assessor described MEA Central as having an “overwhelming inclusive ethos” and noted that inclusion is “woven into every aspect of school life.” The report states that leaders’ vision of ‘A Fantastic Future for All’ is more than a motto—“it strengthens everything they do,” and is evident in every classroom, corridor and interaction across the school.
The assessor celebrated the school’s core values of achievement, participation and citizenship, describing inclusion as “a shared responsibility rooted in the school’s values.” Leaders’ determination to challenge barriers was praised, with the report highlighting the school’s mantra of “assessment not assumption,” demonstrating a belief that every student can achieve highly with the right support.
The report also commended the school’s relentless pursuit of equity, noting that the staff’s work is underpinned by the belief “we have never arrived,” reflecting an ongoing commitment to continuous improvement.
Pastoral and behaviour systems were highlighted as exceptional, with the assessor describing movement around the school as calm and well‑organised. The behaviour model was praised for being restorative, predictable and rooted in dignity, noting that at MEA Central, “behaviour is taught, not assumed.”
Academic ambition was praised throughout the report, with teaching described as “meticulously designed” and firmly rooted in the principle of teach to the top—no limits, no labels. Learning walks showed highly consistent routines and a calm, focused atmosphere.
The report identifies significant strengths in SEND provision, noting that “90% of students meet or exceed expected outcomes” through the school’s targeted support and rigorous monitoring. Reading support was also praised, with all Year 9 students receiving intervention reading at or above age‑related expectations.
Importantly, the assessor repeatedly referenced the warmth of the school community, describing MEA Central as having “a welcoming, warm atmosphere” where relationships between staff, students and families are consistently strong. Students discussed their experiences with pride, telling the assessor how regular feedback helps them improve and how school celebrations, events and CAP awards create a strong sense of belonging.
Parents also spoke extremely positively, with one stating simply: "the school is brilliant!"
Becoming an Inclusion Quality Mark Centre of Excellence recognises schools that not only demonstrate exemplary inclusive practice but also influence and inspire others beyond their own setting. It acknowledges schools that innovate, share expertise, and embed inclusion deeply into leadership, teaching, culture and community engagement.
This status involves an annual review to ensure continued excellence, and after three consecutive years, schools may be considered for Flagship School status
Mrs Reynard, MEA Central Principal, said:
“We are incredibly proud to have been recognised as an Inclusion Quality Mark Centre of Excellence. This award celebrates the dedication of our whole school community and reaffirms our commitment to ensuring that every child feels included, valued and able to thrive. Achieving this status reflects not only the strength of our provision but also our willingness to share our practice and support inclusion beyond our own school. It is a significant milestone for us, and we look forward to continuing this journey together.”
