Principal’s Message for Week B, wb 8th June 2026

Participation

As we begin our final half term of the academic year, there are so many opportunities for students to participate, contribute and make the most of everything school has to offer.

First and foremost, attendance remains our priority. These final seven weeks are just as important as the first seven weeks of the year. Teaching, learning and assessment continue right until the end of term, and every lesson counts. We teach vital knowledge and skills throughout this period, helping students to build strong foundations for the next stage of their education.

Alongside lessons, students will have opportunities to take part in trips, enrichment activities, celebrations, leadership opportunities and end-of-year events. Every activity has been carefully planned and plays an important role in students' personal development, school experience and future success.

We would therefore ask for your support in ensuring students attend every day, arrive on time and make the most of every opportunity available to them. Every day matters, every lesson counts and every opportunity to participate helps shape a fantastic future.

Enrichment

We are proud of our extensive co-curricular offer and continue to encourage all students to take advantage of the wide range of free clubs available. From Chess and Coding to Textiles and Skateboarding, there is something for everyone, and these opportunities help students develop new skills, interests and friendships beyond the classroom.

We are also looking forward to a number of trips, visits and enrichment experiences during the final half term. These opportunities play an important role in broadening horizons and bringing learning to life. We ask that parents and carers read any letters and communications relating to these carefully and return any required information or permissions promptly.

Year 9 Weekly update

The last half term of the year has officially started and it’s been great to see all of our Year 9s coming back to school at the same time as we start saying our ‘goodbyes’ to Year 11. We are getting closer to becoming Key Stage 4 role models for our school and are really excited to see this materialising in our everyday interactions with the year.

As we move into this 7-week half term, and, hopefully, it warms up again, we advise all students to bring a water bottle to school, daily. There are water fountains available all around the school that students can use to refill their water bottles. Water is available to buy from the canteen at social times but please be reminded that these are charged onto your child’s Arbor account.

Summer 2 is a crucial half-term for us to set the tone of the year ahead, which is why we want to remind all parents and carers of the importance of attending school daily, and on time. Here is the most recent study from the UK government on how school attendance affects academic progress for your records.  The link between attendance and attainment in an assessment year

If your child’s attendance has dropped below 95% for this academic year, you should have, by now, received communication of this, and we would like to advise you to avoid any absences moving forward, unless these are because of exceptional or unavoidable circumstances; please remember to reach the Year 9 team if you would like support ensuring your child attends school daily, and on time.

We wanted to finish this week’s message with some celebrations from the Year 9 team:

  • Ms Dixon’s English Class (9B/EnR) - we are all so impressed with the level of maturity you're showing during your English lessons since coming back this half term. Well done for working hard and for being so passionate about your English lessons.
  • Ms Davies’ Art Class (9A/Ar) - while I was on recovery this week, it was a pleasure to pop by your class and seeing you all living by our Grade 1 scholarly habits while working on your calligraphy art. Very proud of you!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Head of Year Messages

Year 7 – Ms. S Bryan/Mrs.K Park

It has been a fantastic week for our Year 7 students, and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them all on their outstanding approach to Big Test 2. They have conducted themselves with maturity, focus, and determination and have truly embodied what it means to be scholars. We are incredibly proud of the effort and attitude they have demonstrated.

I am also delighted to share that attendance has been excellent, the best it has been in quite some time. Thank you to both students and families for your commitment as it really does make a difference to learning and progress. To continue building on this success, we are excited to launch a Summer 2 Attendance Reward. Students who maintain 100% attendance across the half term will be invited to a special cinema experience afternoon during the final week. This is a wonderful incentive, and we look forward to celebrating those who meet this impressive goal.

As always, we want to emphasise that full day attendance is paramount. To ensure students gain the most from their education, we kindly ask that appointments or early departures from school are kept to emergencies only wherever possible.

Finally, we would like to thank parents and carers for your continued support in ensuring students are fully equipped for school each day. A reminder that all students should bring their planner, red book, knowledge organiser, reading book, and a pencil case.

Thank you once again for your ongoing support, we look forward to another excellent half term ahead.

Year 8 – Ms. C Gates

It has been a strong start back for Year 8 this half term. This week has been Reflect Week, where students have received their reports and spent time in form reflecting on their Big Test results, strengths and areas for development. This is a really important part of the assessment cycle, as it allows scholars to understand their progress and set clear targets for improvement as we move towards the end of the year. Reports will be emailed home, so please take some time to go through these together and discuss next steps.

As we enter the final half term of the year, it is so important to keep attendance as high as possible. Every lesson counts, and being in school every day ensures students can fully access the curriculum and continue building towards their fantastic future. Thank you for your continued support in keeping attendance high and ensuring all scholars arrive on time and ready to learn.

Ms Gates and Mr Chowdhury

Year 10 – Mr C Blackburn

Dear Parents and Carers,

Firstly, a huge well done to Year 10 this week in their mission of proving what is possible. Their attitude, focus and determination have been very positive to see, and they are continuing to show they are ready to step up as the oldest year group in the school.

Welcome to Our New Pastoral Manager

We are also pleased to welcome Miss Shabaz, our new Pastoral Manager, to the Year 10 team. Miss Shabaz will be working closely with students to provide guidance, support and pastoral care, and we are really excited to have her on board as we continue to support the year group through this important stage of their school journey.

Role Models & School Culture

As the most senior students in the building, it is vital that Year 10 act as positive role models. This means moving around the school calmly, with purpose and confidence, setting the standard for younger students to follow.
Culture is extremely important at MEA Central, and it is the responsibility of Year 10 to continue building and strengthening this through their behaviour, attitude and everyday actions.

Attendance & Punctuality – Key to Success

Attendance remains one of the most important factors in determining GCSE success and college opportunities. Students with strong attendance benefit from consistent teaching, feedback and support, which directly impacts their grades.

  • Students with 95%+ attendance are far more likely to achieve strong GCSE outcomes
  • Missing just one day every two weeks results in nearly 3 weeks of lost learning across the year
  • Colleges carefully review attendance and punctuality, and low attendance can limit future options

Summer 2 is the final opportunity for Year 10 to secure strong attendance data before it is shared with colleges. Everyday matters, and we encourage all students to aim for 100% attendance and be punctual to every lesson.

Progress Exams – 15th June

A key focus now is the upcoming Progress Exams, beginning the week commencing 15th June. These are extremely important, as they help determine predicted grades that are shared with colleges.

Students will receive exam timetables, and a range of support sessions have been carefully planned to maximise success. We strongly encourage students to begin preparing now by revising little and often, using the strategies they have developed this year.

Strong preparation, combined with excellent attendance and focus, will give students the very best chance of achieving their potential.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to ensure Year 10 finish the year strongly and are fully prepared for Year 11.

Best wishes,

Mr Blackburn and Miss Shabaz

Year 11 – Mr J Roper

We are delighted to share that our Year 11 students have continued their fantastic approach to their GCSE exam period. Students are following their individual timetables with maturity and commitment, attending school for pre-exam support sessions as well as their formal examinations. It has been wonderful to see their focus, independence and determination during this important time.

As we move closer to the end of their time with us at MEA Central, we are very much looking forward to celebrating everything our students have achieved over the past five years. We have two special events coming up to mark this milestone.

Our Leavers’ Assembly will take place at 3:00pm on Friday 12th June. This is an event we are both really looking forward to, as it gives us the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the hard work, resilience and friendships that have defined this year group’s journey through MEA Central.

In addition, a letter will be sent home this week with final arrangements for the 'Class of 2026 Leavers’ Prom. This memorable event will take place on Thursday 2nd July at the Royal Nawaab Pyramid. The prom will be a wonderful final celebration, giving students the chance to mark the end of their time with us in style and to reflect on their shared experiences. The letter will include full details regarding timings and methods of making a payment contribution.

Finally, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to parents and carers for your continued support throughout the exam period and over the past five years. Your encouragement has played a vital role in helping our students reach this important stage in their education.

Many thanks,

Mr Roper & Ms Renshaw
