Year 9 Reporting Week
At MEA Central we work tirelessly towards our vision of ‘A fantastic future for all', and our curriculum consists of more than merely the delivery of a statutory range of subjects.
It comprises all the learning experiences within the school and includes not only knowledge and skills, but the attitudes, beliefs and values which underpin the relationships of the school community. As a nurturing and ambitious community, we seek to promote the academic, personal, physical, social and moral development of each child. In essence, the curriculum constitutes everything which occurs within and impacts upon the school.
An academic, subject-centred curriculum which builds cultural capital – the accumulation of knowledge, behaviours, and skills that one can tap into to demonstrate one's cultural competence - is the best way to prepare students for the future. As E.D. Hirsch puts it, “The ability to act and communicate effectively within the cultural commons is a requisite to the success of any citizen, with success defined minimally as the ability to earn a good living, participate in democratic self-government, and meet every citizen as an equal.”
Above all, our curriculum is student-centred, striving for academic excellence in public examinations within a balanced and diverse programme, while at the same time recognising and rewarding non-academic achievement in accordance with the aims of the school.
